Fine
Binding &
Design Binding
at Praxis Bookbindery
There are times when you have a book that you wish to give
a special treatment to. The book might have a cover that has been severely damaged and a
conservation treatment is not what you want. You may have a book that is still "in
sheets" meaning it has not been previously bound or the book may be a presentation to
someone special and needs to be "dressed up".
In situations like this, Praxis Bookbindery can create a
binding that incorporates design specific to that book or to the particular vision you
have for that book.
Using techniques from traditional fine binding such as
onlays and inlays of leather, parchments and exotic materials in combination with gold,
palladium or other leaf metals the design can be brought out in a handsome and elegant
manner. Unusual materials, such as plastics, metals or exotic leathers; unusual binding
structures such as accordions, exposed sewings and many other variations can be combined
to bring forth a truly unique binding.
This type of binding is usually relegated to a
"one-of-a-kind" situation, but it is also possible to produce a small edition in
this manner.
Many of the fine bindings produced at Praxis Bookbindery
are already in international collections as well as in the United States. Bindings from
the shop have also been reproduced in numerous catalogues.
